These luminaires are used indoors (ta 40oC) where emergency light is needed.Each luminaire must be permanently connected to mains power supply. In normal operation the illumination LEDs are lit as well as the green indicating charge LEDs when the battery is charging. In case of a mains power supply failure the luminaire will light the led strip automatically in emergency mode. When the mains power supply is restored the device turns to normal operation.

1. Operations for installation, maintainance or testing must be done by authorized personnel only.

2. The device must be connected to the mains power supply through a fuse dependent by the total amount of the line’s power load.

3. It is suggested to check every month the indication LED for battery charging, and by pushing the TEST button to check the emergency circuit. The led strip should light as long as the TEST button is pressed. If the luminaire doesn’t work as described above contact the installer.

4. It is suggested to check every 6 months the m i n i m u m a u t o n o n o u s d u r a t i o n b y disconnecting the mains power supply. Count the time that the led strip lights and in case of less time than the nominal autonomy, the battery must be replaced. If the measured time is considerably less than the nominal autonomy contact the installer. In case of battery or led strip replacement, these must be replaced by parts of the same type, by the manufacturer or by a competent person.

5. In case of inactive use for a period greater than 2 months, disconnect the battery by pulling out the battery’s connector.


** Notice The light source contained in this luminaire shall only be replaced by the manufacturer, or his agent, or a similar qualified person.


General Emergency Luminaire Categories

  • NON- MAINTAINED EMERGENCY LUMINAIRES: These luminaires operate only during an interruption of the mains power supply.They consist of a charging circuit, rechargeable batteries (usually Ni-Cd), a control circuit and a lamp ignition circuit, if the luminaire contains a fluorescent tube.
  • MAINTAINED EMERGENCY LUMINAIRES: Luminaires of this type operate either from the mains power supply and during the interruption of the mains power supply.The same lamp is used for both instances. They consist of a lamp operation circuit from the mains power supply (usually and electronic ballast), a charging circuit, rechargeable batteries (usually Ni-Cd), a control circuit and an inverter for the lamp, if the luminaire contains a fluorescent tube.
  • SUSTAINED EMERGENCY LUMINAIRES: This type of emergency luminaires is identical in operation with the maintained type with the only difference that two lamps are used, one for emergency operation and the other for operation with the mains power supply.
  • SLAVE EMERGENCY LUMINAIRES: These luminaires do not contain battery for their operation but depend on external power sources (central battery systems). The slave luminaires are categorized according to their operation voltage. There are models for 12, 24 V AC/DC and 230V AC/DC.


Selftesting «Intelligent» Emergency Luminaires.

This special category incorporates high technology microprocessors monitor basic operation parameters.The intelligent luminaires of olympia electronics monitor and test for:

  • Correct charging, internal circuitry operation and the correct battery installation on a continuous basis.
  • Correct lamp operation every 15 days.
  • Autonomous duration by fully discharging every 6 months.

They have three LEDs by which they show their operational state. This permits maintenance personnel with a glanc e, to know exactly which luminair es require maintenance and what type of maintenance is required. The intelligent luminaires are also available in non-maintained, maintained and sustained types.

Addresable Emergency Luminaires.

These types of luminaires operate with the same philosophy as the intelligent type with the main difference that the tests are conducted by commands that are issued by a central control panel, which is programmed by the user as to the type of test and when it will be conducted. The results of every test is stored into the panel’s memory and can be seen on the panel’s screen or can be printed. The installation and commissioning of such a system is surely more difficult but offers many advantages and capabilities compared to a system with common emergency luminaires.

Centrally Supplied Addresable Emergency Luminaires.

They operate with the same philosophy as the addressable emergency luminaires with the difference that they do not have batteries but are powered and simultaneously monitored by a central control panel. The installations of this type, apart from other things, have very few maintenance requirements because the batteries and all control circuitry are located in the central control panel.
